How to Choose the Right Strapping Rolls for Your Packaging Line
Start with the load, not the strap
The right strapping roll depends on what you're securing. Light cartons on a conveyor need very different strapping from heavy pallets going onto a container for export. Work backwards from your heaviest, most demanding load.
PP vs PET strapping
- PP (polypropylene) strapping — suited to general carton and light pallet securing, most commonly used grade
- PET strapping — higher tensile strength, holds tension over time, better for heavy industrial loads and export pallets
Manual vs machine grade
Manual grade strapping is built for hand-held strapping tools — straightforward for lower-volume packing. Machine grade strapping is designed for semi-automatic and automatic strapping machines on higher-volume lines, where consistency and tension control matter more.
A simple way to decide
If you're strapping fewer than a few hundred cartons a day by hand, manual-grade PP strapping is usually sufficient and economical. If you're running a semi-automatic strapping machine or shipping heavier export pallets regularly, PET or machine-grade PP is worth the additional cost for the extra hold.
